Nobi Smart Lamp
Nominee Information
As we age, there is an increasing risk of falling: one in three +65 falls at least once a year. For 65+, falls are the leading cause of death by injury. People with dementia fall twice as often as people without dementia. At a certain age, realizing its vulnerability, often results in anxiety about falling with big impact on mental and physical wellbeing. People move less (resulting in an increasing risk of falling) and start feeling low in mood, frustrated and lonely due to decreased social contact.
Nobi is an AI-enabled smart lamp focusing on fall detection, fall prediction, fall prevention and even vital sign monitoring. Picture it as a sort of ‘guardian angel’, hanging in the middle of the room, offering safety while meeting the highest design standards, as well as privacy requirements. In case of a fall or emergency, caregivers, relatives or friends will immediately be contacted. After a fall, Nobi makes it possible for them -via voice connection- to talk with the person in need to reassure that help is on its way. When help arrives, the lock of people’s home will automatically be opened.
Nobi assures peace-of-mind for both elderly as their family. This results also in reduced anxiety for falling with positive impact on both physical and mental wellbeing. People dare to move again, which is not only crucial in preventing future falls, but also has big impact on peoples’ mental state of mind.
Nobi not only supports elderly, but also their busy caregivers. How? By taking away mental pressure by guaranteeing an immediate alarm in case of an emergency. By helping them to prevent falls. And by taking over administrative tasks so caregivers can focus on those tasks that really make the difference in elderly’s life. Summarized, Nobi empowers caregivers to be the best version of themselves: warm, human professionals getting full ownership again on their day-to-day job; being ‘in control’ when taking care of patients and realizing again why they chose nursing as a career: to make a real difference in the lives of people.
Nobi believes that product design is key in bringing high tech care products to elderly and their caregivers.
Key challenge? People don’t like intrusive & stigmatizing care products that give them the feeling of being old and independent. And caregivers need simplicity of use.
Solution? To bridge the gap between elderly & care technology, Nobi broke with the conventions of existing care products and created fall detection technology in the form of a stylish lamp, that by no means looks like care technology and fits in every interior.
The design is based on 4 main principles (Simple // Friendly // Cozy // Discreet) with only 1 goal: transform a high tech care solution into an everyday design object people buy, not because they ‘need’ it, but because they actually ‘want’ it in their homes.
Nobi’s newest generation smart lamps with new design will be available as from April 2023.
