J-TRAC ULTIMATE: LIGATURE & IMPACT RESISTANT CURTAIN RAIL SYSTEM – Anti-Ligature Shop Ltd
Nominee Information
J-trac curtain rail system was first launched in 2016 as a fixed ligature resistant curtain rail which confounded conventional wisdom by replacing slotted rail with a monorail system which was first designed to to be fitted within the High Security hospitals in rooms which patients are unsupervised for long periods of time between nursing observations. The advantages over other slotted systems were clear.. The latest HBN 00-10 part E (6) advised at 6.21 A conventional slotted track should not be used if there is sufficient room to get something such as a key to form a ligature point. In addition this curtain rail system cannot be detached and used as a weapon. Since its been on sale there have been no recorded ligature attachment issues. So confident are the manufacturers that the fixed rail system will not break that they offer a lifetime warranty. Since it was first went on sale in 2016 across the UK and Europe there have been no reported ligature incidents or breakages from impact or tampering.
Unlike other collapsible ligature resistant curtain rail systems this rail is supplied with a installation course (mandatory) which covers installation and commissioning. Once the rail is fitted and in accordance with HBN 00-10 part E (6) 6.27 curtains are weight tested on first installation and the correct configuration and release weight are recorded. The system is so reliable that NO SPECIALIST WEIGHT TESTING IS REQUIRED following first installation just visual checks to see that there is no damage to the rail and substrate, the configuration of the gliders is as first commissioned and that the curtains remain the same. Not having to pay expensive independent testing companies saves Trust large on-costs.
J-trac curtain rail system has recently undergone testing at BRE (Informed Choices) where it underwent testing for ligature resistance and impact testing. The highest level of impact testing under the scheme (4kg sold object dropped from 1.7m) did not alter the integrity of the rail and it still operated perfectly. Similarly ligature resistance tests did not result in ligature attachment to the fixed rail system using test wires.
So how could the rail be improved. Service user feedback over the years identified that it would be advantageous to create a fixed ligature resistant fixed curtain end stop. With the current system the curtain can travel across the rail without completely covering the window thereby requiring patient adjustment to ensure privacy and to reduce light bleed. Specially adapted ligature resistant end caps are being trialled in inpatient settings.
This new improved system provides the finesse on what has proved to be the most robust ligature resistant system in manufacture today. This is not just J-trac V2 this is J-trac Ultimate.
