My Home My Choice. Team Springwell and the Home Project
The film My Home My Choice is the culmination of the work Team Springwell have done on for the last 2 years.
The Home project focused on looking at ways to make design choices more accessible for people with a learning disability moving into their own home.
My Home My Choice reflects on some of the issues that face people moving into their own homes which includes not choosing colours or furniture that reflects personal choice or needs as well as some of the difficulties of living with others who may have differing sensory tolerance to things like day to day noise.
Along side the film there will be some practical and accessible design guidance based on how to support someone with a learning disability make design choices around how they would like their homes to look and feel. This includes tips to help someone choose paint colours and many other aspects of home design.
It is hoped that the film will help planners or designers working in areas such as housing to think about how to involve experts by experience in the design process and also provides some practical tools and guidance to support choice and involvement.
Alongside My Home My Choice there is planned a second film which focuses on the co production process and the development of the design guidance.
