Biography

Simon is a Fellow of the Institute of Healthcare Engineers & Estate Managers (IHEEM) and holds a Masters in Building Services Engineering from Northumbria University.

Completing an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in engineering with County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, Simon then focussed on specialist fields such as Decontamination, Medical Gas Pipeline Systems & Specialist Ventilation. He has worked in a number of Acute NHS Foundation Trusts in engineering, compliance & assurance and capital projects with his last Acute Health role being Head of Estates at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In 2019, Simon made the transition in to Mental Health becoming Deputy Director of Estates & Facilities at Bradford District Care, and more latterly in April of this year joined Tees Esk & Wear Valleys as their Director of Estates, Facilities & Capital Programmes.

Simon says:

“I am passionate about providing safe, therapeutic and most of all – appropriate environments for our service users. The impact of the built environment and our surroundings on recovery is often not fully understood by design teams. Coming a close second is the effect of the working environment for our staff. I also have a keen interest in assistive technology in the Mental Health setting.”
