After a 27-year career in the NHS, starting as student nurse and working her way up to Divisional Nurse Manager, a BSc Hons degree in Adult Nursing led Deborah into nursing older people and care home management.
Deborah became home manager at Whittle Hall in Warrington, Cheshire in 2017. Whittle Hall specialises in dementia care and was the first in the area to offer complex dementia care for residents with more complex and challenging behaviours and won two Design in Mental Health Awards in 2018.
Deborah was the project director for this pilot study which involved residents from her dementia plus units. The pilot study was nominated and was a finalist in five awards in 2021 winning a Care Home Award, coming second in the British Nursing Journal Awards and being the only non-NHS company to be a finalist at the Royal College of Nursing Awards. Both Deborah and Louise are currently working with the University of Bradford to expand on the original pilot study and obtain the funding for a full-scale research study.
